Description
The Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (or SSR as it is known)International Airport, is the only gateway for air access in Mauritius and, as such, plays a strategic role in the economic development of the island. The Airports of Mauritius Co Ltd has embarked on several development projects, which aim at increasing the operating capacity and enhancing the country’services.
Recently completed projects include the creation of a Premium Class Lounge at arrivals; the addition and re-arrangement of Immigration facilities both at arrivals and departures; a plant for wastewater treatment with capacity to process four times more effluent; and a new road network and better parking facilities to ease incoming and outgoing traffic.
Along with plans to proceed with the second phase extension of the Passenger Terminal, SSR International Airport is set to become a regional hub,offering even more opportunities to stakeholders.
The SSR International Airport of Mauritius wants to ensure that passengers enjoy a smooth trip through the airport by making full use of all theservices and facilities on offer. Enjoying increasing popularity are the newly furnished lounges operated by AML. In addition to this there are various other facilities such as duty free shopping foreign exchange, post office and telephone, tax refunds and transportation available at the airport.
Shopping
At the SSR International Airport you can enjoy a wide range of shopping in the Duty Free and other shops situated in the Terminal Building – both at Arrivals and Departures. Also available for the admirers of handicrafts and exotic flowers are local handicraft stalls and shops and two flower shops for the people wanting to take home with them a souvenir of their visit to the island. Offering a range of delicious and exotic meals, snack and drinks are several restaurants. The local cuisine has influences fused together from five different continents – so there are delightful blends, flavours and dishes for visitors to experience.
Security
AML has adopted the rule concerning the restrictions on Liquids,Aerosols and Gels in cabin baggage. Items in cabin baggage that don’t conform to regulations will be confiscated and disposed of as provided by th45e laws in force in Mauritius. In case of doubt, passengers can enquire with AML security officers on the floor. If you co-operate with the Airport Security, it will help to make the screening process faster.
Therefore, prior going through for Cabin Baggage Screening,passengers are requested to remove and place all metal items in their possession- such as belt, heavy metal watch and jewellery, mobile phones, coins and any other metal - into the tray provided. Items such as Laptops, LAGs in re-sealable plastic bags, Medications,Clothing (jackets), cabin bags and removed items will be screened separately.
