Caledonian Instrument Cables
BS 5308 Cables
Caledonian BS 5308 standard instrumentation cables are suitable for use within the communication and telecoms, water treatment, oil, gas and petrochemical industries.
Caledonian Cables has a range of Instrumentation Cables to BS 5308, commonly used to carry voice and data signals.Caleodnian's range of BS5308 Instrumentation Cables, including Part 1 Type 1, Part 1 Type 2, and Part 2 Type 1 are available with PVC or LSZH sheaths, and Part 2 Type 2 is available with a PVC sheath.
PAS 5308 Cables
PAS 5308-1:2009 ('PAS' standing for 'Publically Available Specification') was created, so that the information was kept in the public domain. The PAS 5308 standard also provides dimensional details for the cable types that were originally part of the BS5308 standard. The purpose of doing this was so that this data which is an important consideration and required by stakeholders for design, manufacture, testing and selection remained readily available to the public. The standard also covers the requirements and dimensions for polythene insulated control and instrumentation cables in multi-pair construction, with or without screens. PAS 5308 highlights the fact that local, national and/or safety systems may specify fire resistance/reaction requirements, such as circuit integrity, or low emission of smoke and corrosive gases when in fire conditions.
EN 50288-7 Cables
However, in 2009, it was superseded by the European Standard BS EN 50288-7:2005. As a result of this replacement, important technical information relating to certain instrumentation cable builds would have been lost, as these were not included in the new European Standard.
BS 6231 Cables
BS 6231 trirated cable is a British Standard – that highlights the performance and construction requirements of electrical cables that are single core, non-sheathed, PVC-insulated and of rated voltage 600/1000V.
Caledonian BS 6231 cables include two types of cable under this specific British Standard – not to mention the fact Trirated Cable has to meet the requirements of three standards (not just BS6231). The first, Type BK has a maximum conductor operating temperature of 70°C and the second, Type CK Cable can reach 90°C. The most popular cable that complies with this second type is Trirated Cable.
